[CrunchNotes] […] John Battelle posts about Google again.  Dave Winer talks about this in detail and compares them to Netscape.  It is also mentioned by Dave and others that Yahoo is banging out one success after another.  Yahoo is competing very well against Google and it’s my impression that Yahoo sees this as a long fight and is gearing up nicely around RSS.  I posted that RSS is as disruptive as TCP/IP (and of course http://). My guess is that many of our customers don't use much of the web - they frequent a small number of websites, and use Google when they need more information. Why not teach those users to organize their digital life with something like netvibes?

[Supr.c.ilio.us: The Blog] Are We Disruptive Yet?: We’re looking forward to being acquired by the Onion or maybe (hint hint) merging with some web2.0 related workgroup or another. I truly do hope that we’ve managed to disrupt at least someone’s day with pointless pontifications but if we don’t I’ll settle for monetizing on the occasional eyeball or two.

What google brought to the table and in the process help build internet advertising to be widely accepted between small local players with a small ad budget and a credit card to multinational corporations.

Readwriteweb.comhttp://www.readwriteweb.com [Readwriteweb.com] Read/WriteWeb: Most of their huge take of advertising revenue comesto them via webpages - their own pages, plus external webpages that use Google Adsense.Google wants to ensure that huge revenue doesn't get siphoned off by RSS-izingeverything. The Gmail 'Web Clips' feature mentioned above hadadverts alternating with the content, so it was an unsubtle experiment atmonetizing RSS.

Organizer of the Web 2.0 Conference among other things and a respected member of the Internet community, John dismisses the existence of a second Internet bubble outright citing the lack of IPOs and notes that most Web 2.0 companies are taking the acquisition route instead. More significantly however, this article is one of the first in mainstream media which introduces Web 2.0 as an explicit term and John provides good examples and coherent explanation accessible to the general public. John does an good job explaining a big topic and uses a very light hand, without hype or buzzwords. A few dozen more articles like this and you'll finally be able to mention Web 2.0 in some circles without taking 10 minutes to explain it first.
